Veterans Day Federal Holiday Processing and Customer Service Hours: Because the Veterans Day federal holiday falls on Saturday, Department of Education federal offices as well as some of the Department’s Title IV processors and contact centers will be closed on November 10, 2017 (the day before Veterans Day) to observe the Veterans Day federal holiday. Please review the October 26, 2017 electronic announcement to access an attachment for the various centers’ operation status on for the holiday.

Active Confirmation of TG Numbers (SAIG Mailboxes) and Electronic Services User Accounts Required by December 15, 2017 to Maintain Access to Federal Student Aid Systems: To ensure the security of Federal Student Aid’s data systems, every organization enrolled for a Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) account is required to review and validate its assigned TG numbers and Electronic Services user accounts by December 15, 2017. Failure to accurately complete this process by this deadline will result in loss of access to Federal Student Aid data systems. Please review the October 23, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

2018-2019 FAFSA on the Web Preview Presentation: To assist the community with the 2018-2019 Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) processing cycle, Federal Student Aid has made available a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation containing information and screen shots pertaining to the 2018-2019 FAFSA on the Web (FOTW®) site. The PowerPoint can be used for internal staff training or for high school night presentations. For additional information, please review the October 19, 2017 electronic announcement, which includes the presentation as an attachment.

ALERT! – CyberAdvisory – New Type of Cyber Extortion/Threat: Federal Student Aid (FSA) would like to make schools aware of a cyber threat where the criminals are seeking to extort money from school districts and other educational institutions on the threat of releasing sensitive data from student records. FSA is providing guidance on how schools and their IT staff can protect their organizations. While this new threat has thus far been directed only to K12, institutions of higher education should know that they are required to notify the Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) of data breaches via email pursuant to the GLBA Act, and your Title IV participation and SAIG agreements. Please review the October 16, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

Important NSLDS Enrollment Reporting Updates and Reminders: Federal Student Aid has posted an electronic announcement that describes enhancements to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Enrollment Reporting process, including the upcoming availability of the new Enrollment Reporting Statistics Backup Detail Report. The announcement also provides important reminders and resources for the Enrollment Reporting process. Please review the October 5, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

2018-19 SAR and SAR Acknowledgement Mock-ups: Mock-ups of the final versions of the English and Spanish versions of the 2018-19 Student Aid Report (SAR) and SAR Acknowledgement are now available in Portable Document Format (PDF). This resource can be used as a training tool for staff or for financial aid presentations. Please review the October 24, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

2018-2019 Financial Aid Shopping Sheet Template:  This resource is now available as an attachment to the October 25, 2017 electronic announcement. Postsecondary institutions may use the template to develop a Shopping Sheet to provide to students. HTML specifications and the institutional metric data file, as well as the technical guide and a set of Frequently Asked Questions are also attached to the announcement.

Spotlight on FA Solution Services – The Student Experience Center:  In addition to selecting other services, schools may engage in a professional partnership with FA Solutions to provide a high level Student Experience Center (SEC) support that is resourced with our FA Solutions financial aid/ student services professionals who can provide financial aid advising to current and/or prospective students. The SEC team works as an extension of the school to provide much needed additional engagement support for their students and staff. We want our school partners to be available to meet the needs of their students in their offices fully confident that phone /email questions are answered and professionally handled by our SEC team — just as the school would. Our goal for our partners is to ensure all students are served during peak processing and throughout the academic year.

Our SEC services include:

  • Multiple experienced FA Solutions financial aid advisors available to answer incoming financial aid inquiries for the online non-traditional population.
  • Outbound phone and email correspondence to students advising them of missing documents and other issues that may be causing financial aid delays. This should allow the school to experience faster processing of aid and enhanced overall student experience.
  • Coordinated Correspondence – Our team also provides correspondence and advising to students who have been selected for verification. This interaction will speed the verification process up significantly for many students.
  • Admissions/Retention support and follow-up registration assistance and appointment setting.

FA Solutions’ SEC solution is designed to mirror the culture of the school and ultimately enhance the student experience and improving the school’s financial aid processing turnaround times. The SEC helps to minimize interruptions of the school’s current financial aid staff and allows them to be more fully dedicated to meeting with students, as well as minimize interruptions for staff with phone calls and emails. Ultimately, this allows for enhanced financial aid advising and literacy and proactive student support that is necessary for schools to deliver an exceptional “student experience.” If you are interested in learning how the SEC center can help your school, please contact Pam Notemyer at pnotemyer@getfasolutions.com.
