Christmas and New Year’s Day Federal Holiday Processing and Customer Service Hours: Department of Education federal offices and their Title IV processors and contact centers will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2017 to observe the Christmas Day federal holiday, as well as on Monday, January 1, 2018 to observe the New Year’s Day federal holiday. In addition, some of the Title IV processors and call centers will have additional closures on the days surrounding the holidays. Please review the attachment to the December 13, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

2017–18 COD System Peak Processing Reminders: In January 2018, Federal Student Aid (FSA) will begin a peak processing period for the 2017–18 Award Year. To assist schools with planning and processing, FSA has put together some important processing reminders. Please review the December 15, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information and continue to monitor the COD System information page for other system updates. The link to the information page is available at the end of this newsletter.

FSA Coach – 2017–18 Basic Federal Student Aid Program Administration Training for Domestic Schools: FSA Coach is an introductory web-based tutorial on federal student aid program administration that is now available for the 2017–18 Award Year. FSA Coach provides a suite of interactive courses to train both new and experienced financial aid administrators in the essential knowledge and skills needed to successfully administer the federal student aid programs. Please review the December 5, 2017 Dear Colleague letter (id: ANN-17-10) for additional information.

Updated Information Related to the 2017–18 Supplemental Federal Work-Study Funds Due to 2017 Hurricanes: Federal Student Aid (FSA) previously informed schools about the distribution of 2017–18 supplemental Campus-Based funds. Updated information is now available related to the distribution of supplemental 2017-18 Federal Work-Study (FWS) funds, as a result of the 2017 hurricanes that have impacted schools. FSA continues to work with Congress on additional flexibilities for hurricane-impacted students and schools. Please review the December 14, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

(verification) Updates to the Program Integrity Questions and Answers website: The Office of Postsecondary Education maintains a website containing Q&As that pertain to the Program Integrity final regulations that were published on October 29, 2010. Updates were recently posted the Q & As section of the website. Please review the December 12, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.


Complete 2017-2018 Federal Student Aid Handbook with Active Index: This resource is now available and can be accessed via link included in the December 7, 2017 electronic announcement or on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) website.

Upcoming Quarterly SAIG Message Class File Update: New message classes have been added to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System. Please review the December 5, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

2018-2019 Summary of Changes for the Application Processing System Guide (December 2017):  This resource is now available and provides information about changes and enhancements made to the application processing system for 2018-2019. Please review the December 13, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.
