OUTAGE ALERT—G5 System Outage  – Impact to Federal Student Aid Processing and on Funds Availability for Title IV Programs: During the period of November 20-25, 2019, the Department of Education will perform extended system maintenance to its core financial systems, including G5. Please review the October 25, 2019 electronic announcement for additional information.

Veterans Day Federal Holiday Processing and Customer Service Hours: Federal Student Aid and other Federal Department of Education Offices, as well as Title IV processors and contact centers, will be closed on Monday, November 11, 2019 to observe the Veterans Day federal holiday. Please see the October 31, 2019 electronic announcement for the various centers’ operation status on the holiday.

ISSUE ALERT – Federal Student Aid Systems User Access Issue and Resolution: Our Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) Enrollment system oversees the Active Confirmation process for all professional users of Federal Student Aid systems. This process requires that each institution review and validate its assigned TG numbers and Electronic Services user accounts on an annual basis, to ensure that enrolled staff continue to require access to each service or system. While performing a routine system job the week of October 7, 2019, related to Active Confirmation, Federal Student Aid (FSA) inadvertently removed access to FSA systems for some professional users. An automatic fix was implemented on October 17th, but not for Electronic Services accounts (employees enrolled for FAA Access to CPS Online or EDconnect) if those accounts were not actively confirmed in 2018. Please review the October 17, 2019 and October 24, 2019 electronic announcements for additional information, including guidance on how to obtain assistance with regaining access.

2020–21 fafsa.gov and myFAFSA Preview Presentations: To assist the community with the 2020–21 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form processing cycle, Federal Student Aid is making available Microsoft PowerPoint presentations containing information and screen shots pertaining to the 2020–21 fafsa.gov website and the myFAFSA feature of the myStudentAid mobile app. The purpose of the 2020–21 presentations is to provide financial aid administrators (FAAs), mentors, and counselors with screen shots that can be used as a reference tool for the site and the mobile app. This information can be used for internal staff training or for high school financial aid night presentations. Please review the October 17, 2019 electronic announcement for additional information, which includes the Powerpoint attachments.

Perkins Loan Program – Federal Perkins Loan Revolving Fund Distribution of Assets and Timelines for 2019–20: Under Section 466(b), of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA), beginning with the 2019–20 award year and for all subsequent award years, the Department of Education (the Department) will require a capital distribution from the institution’s Perkins Loan Revolving Fund (Perkins Fund) on an annual basis for institutions that continue participating in the Federal Perkins Loan Program. The Distribution of Assets from the Perkins Fund is part of the wind-down of the Federal Perkins Loan Program. Institutions should NOT remove and return any funds to the Department or the institution until the institution has been notified to do so. Please review the October 15, 2019 electronic announcement for additional information, including important timelines for 2019-20.

2020–21 FAFSA Email Campaign Launch: On October 21, 2019, Federal Student Aid (FSA) began sending emails to 2019–20 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filers (and parents of dependent 2019–20 FAFSA filers) who have not yet submitted a 2020–21 FAFSA form. FSA also began sending out myStudentAid mobile app push notifications to people who have downloaded the myStudentAid mobile app and have notifications enabled. The goals of the email campaign are to make customers aware that the 2020–21 FAFSA form is available and to encourage them to complete the form early. Students and parents can complete and submit the 2020–21 FAFSA form electronically via fafsa.gov or via the Apple or Android version of the myStudentAid mobile app using the myFAFSA function. Please review the October 15, 2019 electronic announcementfor additional information.

Active Confirmation of TG Numbers (SAIG Mailboxes) and Electronic Services User Accounts Required by December 13, 2019 to Maintain Access to Federal Student Aid Systems: In an ongoing effort to ensure the security of Federal Student Aid’s data systems, every organization enrolled for a Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) account is required to review and validate its assigned TG numbers and Electronic Services user accounts by December 13, 2019. This includes TG numbers (SAIG mailboxes) with access to the NSLDS Professional Access website, the COD Web Site, and all FAA Access to CPS Online and EDconnect user accounts. It also includes TG numbers enrolled for SAIG batch services for the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS®), the Central Processing System (CPS), the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System, and the Financial Management System (FMS). Failure to accurately complete this process by December 13, 2019 will result in loss of access to Federal Student Aid data systems, including services such as Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) deliveries, ISIR requests, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) corrections, and NSLDS enrollment reporting and updates. Please review the October 28, 2019 electronic announcement for additional information.
