Important note From FA Solutions: Because our newsletter updates are excerpts from the original electronic announcements obtained through the the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) website, please review the original update in its entirety by clicking links to the original posting included with each update. As a reminder, we are unable to post all Federal updates and deadlines in this newsletter. Therefore, schools and organizations are strongly encouraged to review additional information on the IFAP website to stay current on various financial aid topics — especially deadlines.

Thanksgiving Day Federal Holiday Processing and Customer Service Hours: Federal offices as well as Title IV processors and contact centers will be closed on Thursday, November 23, 2017 to observe the Thanksgiving Day federal holiday. In addition, some of the Title IV processors and contact centers will have additional closures on the days surrounding the holiday. Please see the attachment to the November 7, 2017 electronic announcement for the various centers’ operation status on the holiday.

Important: It is critical that schools meet this deadline to ensure that all FISAP data is correctly reflected in the system before the Campus-Based system transition begins in early 2018. Change requests for corrections after December 15, 2017 will be limited to exceptional issues. Please review the November 13, 2017 electronic announcement  for additional information.

IRS Get Transcript Online Unavailable for New Users: The IRS recently suspended for new users the availability of the Get Transcript Online service which provides an immediate PDF version of a tax transcript. Users who had already established an account with the IRS for using this service are still able to login to the Get Transcript Online service. While there is no estimate for how long the tool may be unavailable to new users, Federal Student Aid (FSA) is in communication with the IRS and understands that they are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. In the meantime, several other methods to obtain a transcript from the IRS are available. Please review the November 2, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

Republication of updated waivers and modifications of statutory and regulatory provisions under the authority of the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act of 2003 (HEROES Act): On September 29, 2017, the Department published a notice in the Federal Register issuing updated waivers and modifications of statutory and regulatory provisions governing the Federal student financial aid programs under the authority of the HEROES Act. That notice did not contain the definitions of certain terms used in the notice. The notice was republished in the Federal Register on October 17, 2017 to include the definitions of those terms. Please review the October 27, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.

CPS will Conduct Reprocessing in November & December 2017 to Address Fafsa.gov Issue with Incorrect Tax Filing Status Values: The Central Processing System (CPS) will conduct a reprocessing on Nov. 13, 2017, to resolve an issue on the 2018-19 fafsa.gov website. The issue caused incorrect information to be submitted to the CPS and displayed on the Student Aid Report (SAR) sent to applicants. There will be a follow-up reprocessing for records that were placed on hold or were in an application or correction status and saved prior to the fix being implemented. This reprocessing will occur in December 2017. Please review the November 9, 2017 electronic announcement and October 26, 2017 electronic announcement for additional information.
